The Unrecorded Liturgy of the Evanescent
Let the chroniclers amass their bloated volumes,
Their heavy vellum steeped in the ichor of empires,
Tracing the jagged arcs of conquest and the thundering tread of kings,
Inscribing the grandiloquent machinations of destiny upon the annals of time.
Let them codify the cataclysms, the celestial alignments,
And the monumental upheavals that shake the terrestrial firmament;
For they seek the monumental, the gargantuan, the epochal,
Believing that only the thunderous deserves the permanence of ink.
Yet, there exists a different architecture of being,
A subterranean pulse that defies the taxonomies of the scribe.
There are felicités so infinitesimal, so singularly diaphanous,
That to subject them to the tyranny of the quill
Would be to commit a sacrilege against their very essence.
To capture them in the amber of syntax is to extinguish their light;
They are the fugacious whispers of the cosmos,
The subtle interstices between the macrocosm and the void.
Consider the singular, shimmering motes of dust
Dancing in a crepuscular shaft of solar effulgence,
A momentary ballet of golden particles in a silent chamber.
It is a spectacle too transient for the ledger,
Too ephemeral to warrant the labor of the calligrapher.
Or the sudden, evanescent scent of petrichor rising from parched loam,
A fragrant eulogy for a storm that has already passed into memory;
Such nuances possess no gravity in the eyes of history,
Yet they precipitate a profound, wordless resonance within the marrow.
There is a quietude in the way the shadows lengthen upon a weathered stone,
Or the inexplicable beatitude found in the texture of a moth’s wing,
A delicate, gossamer geometry that eludes the grasp of the analytical mind.
These are the minutiae of existence, the negligible tremors of joy,
Too microscopic to be heralded by trumpets,
Too tenuous to be etched into the granite of monumentality.
They reside in the lacunae of our documented lives,
In the unmapped territories of the unsaid and the unwritten.
And yet, these unrecorded fragments—these staccato bursts of grace—
Are the very quintessence of our animation.
While the grand narratives provide the scaffold of our history,
It is this uncatalogued nectar that nourishes the soul’s desiccation.
They are the invisible filaments of sustenance,
The quiet respiration that prevents the spirit from calcification.
We do not endure by the weight of our triumphs or the magnitude of our tragedies,
But by the accumulation of these unrecorded benedictions,
These infinitesimal sparks that flicker in the darkling periphery of our consciousness.
They are the lilliputian anchors in the tempest of being,
The subtle, nourishing substrate upon which the edifice of the self is built.
Let the world demand its epic poems and its monumental chronicles;
We shall find our eudaimonia in the unmentionable,
In the fleeting, the nameless, and the profoundly small,
Finding, in the absence of a record, the most enduring strength to persist.
